The Lotus and the Stars: The Way of Astro-Yogaco-authored by Trish MacGregor Perhaps you already practice yoga and have done the sun salutation thousands of times, but have never associated it with personal magnetism. Part of the reason may be that you have never practiced Astro-Yoga, which involves intent as well as form. Form involves working on the physical challenge of a posture, while intent attracts the energy associated with the posture and its related astrological sign. Every sun sign is an archetype, a blueprint for particular characteristics that distinguish it from other signs. Geminis are known for their mental agility, Aries for their energy. Scorpios are intense and sexual, Sagittarians are truth seekers. Virgos are detail-oriented, Leos shine on center stage. Every sign manifests a particular archetypal energy based, in part, on the planet that rules that sign. These are the energies that Astro-Yoga postures tap. More directly, astrology and yoga are linked through prana, which in yoga philosophy is a Sanskrit word for life force or life current. Prana, drawn in when we inhale, circulates through the body, sustaining and connecting body, mind, and energy. While prana is carried by the breath, it is much more than simply oxygen. It can also be ‘inhaled’ through our intent. It is a vital universal force that supports the mind and body just as it powers the planets and stars. Yoga is a Sanskrit term which means yoke -- union of the body, mind, and soul. By combining yoga with astrological energies, you become more aware of the intimate connections between your physical self and your emotions, mind, and spirit. This awareness, in turn, empowers you. And once you’re empowered, you’re better able to sculpt and mold your life to fit what you want and need. |
